Irish fonts in word5/7/2024 ![]() ![]() ![]() There's a new "coach" on board world champion athlete and Irish Times columnist Sonia O'Sullivan. However, while the premise of families competing in gladiatorial, pontoon-based feats of physical prowess remains the same, the latest series introduces significant changes. For RTÉ, it involves running around on pontoons in an aquatics park in County Meath with occasional tumbles into the water to keep the excitement going. "Fitness" means different things to different people. The former Clare hurler and inter-county manager is back playing the hits in the latest season of Ireland's Fittest Family (RTÉ One, Sunday at 6:30 pm) - the sequel to Irish reality shows involving sports stars, ordinary punters from the provinces, and excessive yelling. That latter series could have been called "Davy Fitzgerald Yelling at People". And it was the premise of Davy's Toughest Team featuring Davy Fitzgerald. There used to be a bit of that on Operation Transformation - though they've toned it down significantly lately. However, there are some genres in which we excel - such as reality TV shows involving sports stars yelling at members of the public. In television, Ireland remains a perennial underachiever.
